Play Therapy

We offer Play Therapy services for children from ages 3 through adulthood. Family Play Therapy sessions are also available to assist with improving the family dynamic. Play is the natural language of children and it’s a metaphor or symbolic expression of what is going on in their lives.

Naturally, toys and other materials such as arts and puppets, play a role in the therapeutic process. If play is considered the language of children, toys are their words.

Children in play therapy are able to choose from an array of toys. They are given the power to determine what toys to use and how to use the toys to express their feelings.

Categories of Toys:

-Real-life and Nurturing: Doll family, doll house, baby bottle, variety of puppets, animal families, cars, money, cash, register, kitchen food, medical kit, phone, etc.

-Acting-out, Aggression, Scary Toys: Bop bag, toy soldiers, guns (colored plastic-not real looking!), scary/aggressive puppets and animals (alligator, shark, etc), rubber knife, foam sword, handcuffs, etc.

-Creative expression and emotional release: Sand, water, paints, craft materials, clay, musical instruments, magic wand, dress-up clothes, etc.

Sandtray Therapy

Our clinic offers Sandtray Therapy for individuals from ages 4 through adulthood. Sandtray Therapy involves the creation of scenes in a sandtray the size of one’s visualization field utilizing figurines, animals, trees, houses, superheroes, etc, readily available on the shelves. It allows a person to act out their inner drama in three dimensional vision without concerns for artistic skills.

Children, adults, couples and teenagers enjoy this medium for sharing and articulating their fantasies and conflicts. Conflicts can actually be resolved in scenes within the confines of the tray under the therapeutic guidance of a trained and experienced therapist.

Family Therapy

We aim to provide a laid back and yet structured environment for children and their families to explore their feelings and develop positive habits for their lives.

Individual Therapy

Many individuals seek therapy at some point in their lives, especially in times of turmoil. We welcome you into a partnership meant to assist in learning your voice, telling your story, hearing yourself, making peace with what you have been pushing away, expanding your courage, and finding your strengths to use in the healing process.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment. Eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation) are used during one part of the session. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.

Theraplay

Theraplay is not traditional “play therapy,” but a child and family therapy for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement. It is based on natural patterns of healthy interaction between parent and child; and is personal, physical, and fun. Theraplay interactions focus on four essential qualities found in parent-child relationships: Structure, Engagement, Nurture, and Challenge. Theraplay sessions create an active and emotional connection between child and parents, resulting in a changed view of the child as worthy and lovable, and of relationships as positive and rewarding. Theraplay is an evidence-based treatment; shown to be effective in treating Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
